1. The Multi-Layer Film "Stack"

2. The Hot Stamping Process

Unlike traditional liquid molding, SoftEmblem uses heat and pressure to "forge" these films into 3D shapes.

  • Thermal Activation: A heated metal die (the "stamp") presses into the film stack.1 This heat (typically between 150°C and 200°C) softens the ABS and PVC layers.

  • Molecular Fusion: Under high pressure, the layers are fused together. The film doesn't just sit on top; it becomes part of the badge’s molecular structure.2

  • Embossing: The die simultaneously stamps the 3D logo or text into the film, giving the emblem its physical depth and tactile feel.


3. Die-Cutting and Adhesive Application

Once the 3D shape is formed, the badge is finalized through a two-step trimming process to ensure a "factory-perfect" fit.

  1. Backside Adhesive Bonding: A high-strength automotive adhesive (like 3M VHB) is applied to the ABS base.

  2. Precision Die-Cutting: A sharp "steel-rule" die or laser cuts through the entire stack—from the PMMA top down through the adhesive.

  3. Trimming: Excess material is removed, leaving a badge with clean, sealed edges that prevent "delamination" (the layers peeling apart) even when blasted by a high-pressure car wash.
